External DVD Writer

External DVD Writer

After recently buying a new laptop computer, I cannot say I'm too displeased.  I have been doing my research, saving my money, and purchased what I thought to be the most suited of all laptops to meet my individual needs.  It has awesome memory, a fabulous processor, and enough RAM to perfectly meed my needs.  However, while I really can't complain too much about my new computer purchase, I do have one complaint.  I have now come to the conclusion that I should have purchased one of the laptops with an external DVD writer, even though it seemed like an inconvenience at the time of my purchase.  If I had opted for the external DVD writer, I do not believe I'd have any complaints.

Most people who purchase new laptops make the same mistake I made, and opt to purchase a computer with an internal DVD writer.  However, in my personal opinion, the external DVD writer is a much better choice than the internal varieties.  I have formed this opinion for many reasons.  Firstly, the external DVD writer is a computer component you can actually carry around, without having to carry your entire laptop.

Some people may wonder what is the purpose of carrying your DVD writer without carrying your laptop.  For me, I very much tend to need more than one DVD copies of my data, and I can choose to plug an external DVD writer up to just about any computer.  For example, my older desktop computer doesn't have any DVD writer at all.  However, it does have somewhere around 200 GB hard disk, as well as an internet connection.  While my desktop allows me to store up to several hours of visual and audio information, without an external DVD writer, I have no way of storing that said information onto a DVD, or disk.  As a result, copying my audio and visual files involves a lengthy process.  If I had chosen to purchase one of the laptops that had an external DVD writer, copying my information would consist of a single click.

In addition to this issue I am having with my existing DVD writer, most internal DVD writers come already preset by the factory.  This does not allow for change of the region code more than five times total.  Sometimes I need to view or copy my DVDs from many different regions.  However, I have learned that with an external DVD writer, it is possible to change the regional settings unlimited amount of times without compromising the CD drive.  If I had only learned this earlier, I would have absolutely opted for the external option for my new laptop.

Lastly, there are some models of external DVD writers available, that can be hooked up to your television to serve as a DVD recorder.  This option is not available with models of internal DVD writers, as only the external models offer this feature.  This is another factor I wish I had learned before making my computer purchase.

Considering all the benefits of an external DVD writer, it seems like the only logical choice.  The great flexibility, the ability to alter region settings at will, and the opportunity to carry a portable DVD writing source with you where ever you choose, are all wonderful reasons to select an external DVD writer for your laptop.
