Asus Eee Subnotebook Computer - Small in Size, Big in Benefits
Take a piece of notebook paper and fold it in half. This is the approximate size of the ASUS Eee Subnotebook. You are holding a computer that is 7 x 6.5 x 1.4 inches. This laptop is smaller than an average textbook, and a little larger than a Nintendo DS. It’s a notebook computer that is lightweight, about 2 lbs, and powerful. This small notebook is good for students, and for business travelers who don’t want to carry the weight of conventional laptops.
The ASUS Eee is developed by a partnership of Intel and AsusTek, a technology leader with one of the best teams in Research and Development, committed to innovative digital technology. By 2007, one in three computers were powered with the ASUS motherboards. The engineers devote attention to electromagnetic interference, acoustics and simple details that give customer satisfactions. The ASUS notebooks are the first TCO’99-certified notebooks globally.
These laptops are endorsed by the One Laptop Per Child organization. The mission of the non-profit organization is “to empower the children of developing nations to learn by having one connected laptop to every school-age child.” The size and capacity of these laptops are perfect for educational software, allowing children access to tools used to be connected with everyone.
The ASUS Eee 700 Subnotebook series is the first subnotebook developed by ASUS. It was introduced in Taiwan October 16, 2007. Intel, ASUS partner, described the Eee PC as part of Intel’s “World Ahead” marketing, aimed to provide anyone the opportunity to own a PC. The price and size of the 700 are small compared to competitive devices, such as CloudBook or Fujitsu Lifebook. Since October 13, 2007 ASUS has changed the specifications, and re-named the ASUS 700 product series as EeePC 8G, 4G, 4G Surf, and 2G Surf instead of the model numbers 700 and 701.
The price of the 700 series is pretty cheap. Pricing for 2G is USD$299, for the 4G Surf USD$349, for the 4G USD$399, for the 8G USD$499.
The ASUS Eee 900 subnotebook computer Series was introduced in Hong-Kong on April 16, 2008. The 900 series started sales in the UK May 1, 2008 for £329 (about USD$650) and on May 12, 2008 in the US for USD$549. The 900 series dimensions are slightly bigger than the precedent 70x ASUS subnotebooks - measuring 225 × 165 × 35 mm (WxDxH), or 9″ x 6.5″ x 1.37″, and weighs about 2.21 lbs.
