The Free Accounting Source Code requires developer to “open source” their source code while the commerce source accounting system is re-brand able and royalty free, and will save the developer thousands of hours in coding and testing but still keep their source code closed and secured! Let’s me show you some differences between them:

The Open source project normally requires every user to include their modified or enhanced source code to deliver together to their customer, this means your competitor will obtain your source code and create the similar product and offer it at a lower price, you will lost your competitive advantages very fast!

Commercial source code based product will provide better support, faster bug fixes and greater responsibility to assist its’ customer in every way! The Open source project is maintained by highly interested individual who take it as a hobby to gain recognition, some might be responsive but most require the user to do the work themselves, no support provided.
Different #3 - Commerce source code is easier to modify, enhance and integrate.
Commercial source code must fulfill these 3 criteria to be successful, but open source will lack of consistency in source code and will not assure fast integration or modification in the process, because it is “open source”!
Different #4 - Open source is more service oriented.
By using open source, you must shift your company focus on software to services! Instead of providing high quality software, you can only provide high quality services only. Commerce source code will let you earn both money and gain high competitive advantages over open source, because you can keep the source closed and take advantage of open source with minimum payment!
Conclusion: To leverage advantages of both systems: use commerce source as your core, and open source as your supplement project, gain both advantages at the same time. I recommend developer to seriously considering the pros and cons of the open source project before trying to save some money on commercial product and lose everything else at the end.
