Surplus and Discount Computers

Saturday, September 30th, 2006
Tip! Buying refurbished doesn’t mean you’re stuck with an outdated machine. While computers are forever becoming faster and able to hold more data on larger hard drives, the basics of the computer are still the same.

Surplus computer means that manufacturer excess, overstock, and slightly obsolete inventories in huge quantities were purchased. What that means for you, our customer, is truly remarkable discount computer prices! These benefits and values of surplus computers were traditionally available to only large volume commercial buyers, dealers, and corporate level buyers. Also, discount computers are also sold retail so you can get all the benefits too.

The sellers of surplus computers and discount computers are committed to offering tremendous savings to you, the retail customer. Desktop PCs, laptops, notebooks, barebones, whole computer systems, computer accessories, everything in computers you can find in surplus and discount computers.

Sometimes repackaged products are sold as surplus computers or discount computers but they are always evaluated, tested and quality assured, fully functional and repackaged for shipment.

Tip! The other main categories of computers are the overstock, surplus, liquidated, superceded, discontinued, open box or end-of-line stock. These are all basically the same in that they are all UNUSED computers.

Sometimes sold as surplus computers or discount computers are open Box products which are retested, quality assured, fully functional and complete. The customer can expect original manufacturer packaging.

Building Computers: Re-using an Old Case

Friday, September 29th, 2006
Tip! Many new home electronic products, especially those that are designed to communicate with a computer or other electronic products, make use of embedded single board computers. Despite this emerging trend in home electronics, single board computers fail to fully dominate the computer world because of some disadvantages.

In planning to build a computer, the majority of a person’s thinking centers on the CPU, motherboard, and hard drive. What case to use is of secondary concern, with the decision based often on personal taste rather than technical reasons.

Some builders may want to re-use an old case.

The logic of it seems sound. Perhaps you have an old computer, nothing of which is salvagable but the case. Or, maybe a friend has gutted his old system, scavenging parts to make a new computer. Re-using a case can shave dollars off the cost of your new system, and make use of an item that might otherwise be trashed.

Tip! Here we are going to introduce different classifications of computers one by one. We will discuss what are in classifications and what job they perform.

In the light of reality, however, using that old case makes economic sense only if it comes with a sufficent power supply to fill your needs. Many older cases were sold with 230 or 250 watt units. These are completely inadequate for today’s needs.

The most basic internet and homework sort of computer requires 300 watts. If you have ambitions of anything beyond web browsing and word processing, then start thinking higher. For some pursuits much higher. Top level gaming and heavy duty video work may require 500 watts.

If you still want to use that old case, there’s a lot you can do to upgrade it. The most obvious move is to install a stronger power supply. Since they usually mount with only 4 to 6 screws, this is an easy operation. Just lately, I’ve noticed some 400 watt units being sold at bargain prices, so this can be done without busting your budget.

Tip! In the 1930’s and 1940’s, newer and more efficient computers were continuously developed. Gradually, they came to possess the key features which are present in modern day computers ? digital electronics and flexibility of programming.

If you need firewire and USB ports in the case’s front, they can be installed in one of the 3.5 inch bays. Low cost kits, that come with cables, can get the job done. You can hook up cameras, flash memory, and other good stuff without fiddling about in the back of the case.

Does the case need a new fan port cutout made? Now is the time to do it, while the case is empty. My prefered method is to saw out a small rectangle, and cover the hole with steel mesh. I use the screws that hold the fan to keep the steel clamped in place.

In the case’s previous use, PCI cards probably were installed, and now you’re left with one or more holes than need to be filled. If you can mount your cards there, do so, or get replacement caps to cover them. Leaving the holes open can let a lot of dust in, and change the airflow patterns, reducing cooling efficency.

Tip! The manufacturers of surplus and refurbished computers are committed to offering tremendous savings to you, the retail customer. Desktop PCs, laptops, notebooks, barebones, whole computer systems, computer accessories, everything in computers you can find in surplus and discount computers.

A Review of Cheap Computers

Thursday, September 28th, 2006
Tip! The other main categories of computers are the overstock, surplus, liquidated, superceded, discontinued, open box or end-of-line stock. These are all basically the same in that they are all UNUSED computers.

So what type of computer are you using? I have chosen to go with a Mac Ibook G4. This little baby does darn near everything I want it to and then some. It’s amazing the way they make them so small and they weigh less than five pounds, by comparison or horseshoe only weighs 3 pounds. Technology is absolutely amazing these days, and it’s improving at an incredible pace. You can literally purchase a notebook computer that’s a mere half inch thick, but yet still packs a boatload of gigabytes.

It really blows my mind. As you know by now, folks all over the world enjoy the benefits of computers from the privacy of their very own homes. In fact, if you still don’t have a PC or Mac, then it’s pretty safe to say that you are behind the times. Well folks, now days you don’t have to concern yourself with massive computer costs. There is a plethora of cheap computers to choose from. There is definitely one for you.

Tip! Sometimes repackaged products are sold as surplus or discount computers but they are always evaluated, tested and quality assured, fully functional and repackaged for shipment.

When it comes to the computers we have in our homes, many of us would be lost without them. The conveniences that come from Internet access are innumerable. The World-Wide-Web gives us the freedom to do our taxes without paper, manage our bank accounts from home, and by groceries and even have them delivered to our door. Wow, now that’s progress. What really makes a great is the fact that computers are so very, very affordable now. You can pick up a cheaper model and still get all the necessary things at you and agent in a computer. I can remember just back in 98 when I purchased a massive Gateway desktop computer, and paid like 1600 bucks for it. It sounds funny now. These days we would all laugh at such a price tag on such a mediocre PC.

Tip! So that’s it. Two main categories of computers, quite different from each other but both offering great deals on branded equipment.

There wasn’t anything special about it at all. A 15 inch monitor, tower, keyboard, mouse, and 13 gigs aren’t saying much. Hell, I only paid a grand for my Apple notebook that has tons more features and 60 gigabytes of memory. Boy, how things have evolved. Thank God for cheap computers! So, if you are among the uninitiated to home computers, then I my advice is to hit the Internet. Although the giant megastores like Best Buy and Circuit City are wonderful for browsing, I still maintain that the finest deals are found in cyberspace.

Now, I realize that you may not have a computer in order to browse for cheap computers, but surely one of your friends or relatives will. This is Google.com to search and compare the various PCs. Dell is one of the finer companies that offer specials on package deals. You can actually custom make yours right through their web site. You can get the entire setup for as little as 300 bucks. Now that’s a lot better than 1600. No question about it, the Internet is loaded with cheap computers.

Tip! Yes, computers are becoming a common household fixture. I know people as young as 5 and as old as 79 that have their own computers and can’t wait to get on them.

High Performance Single Board Computers

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006
Tip! When it come up up up to our home computers, many of us would have trouble acquiring on without them. There are just so many animal comforts that come up from Internet entree.

Computers are very powerful devices that if properly integrated with other electronic components, will make a very power electronic device or industrial machine. Not all kinds of computers can be combined with other electronic components to form another product. Desktop computers, for example, are simply too large to be fitted inside another electronic device. For such applications, you need a single board computer (SBC).

However, ordinary single board computers, are not enough for certain applications. Mission critical telecommunication applications, for example, need more than just a simple SBC. For such applications, a rugged SBC with some kind of supercomputing power is needed. Such single board computers are called high performance single board computers.

High performance single board computers are SBCs ,specifically designed of use in applications that require high reliability, functionality, serviceability and manageability. These computers have a superior computing ability and the capacity to support rigorous I/O operations. High performance SBCs often find use in aerospace, military, automotive, telemetry, scientific, medical, industrial control and transportation applications.

Tip! Most importantly, refurbished doesn’t mean that you’re buying a computer with a defect or something else wrong with it. All computers go through the same testing and approval process refurbished and new alike.

The high performance term in high performance SBCs has nothing to do with its size. Surprisingly, it also has nothing to do with the processor speed, although most heavy-duty applications require higher microprocessor speeds. Modern high-performance SBCs have processors with typical speeds of 1.7 to 2.7 GHz with 800 MHz system bus speed. It is not uncommon to find high performance SBCs in the 40 to 400 MHz ranges, especially if the SBC is small and used as an embedded SBC.

The memory size, whether the board uses a DDRAM or an SDRAM, won’t help you identify whether an SBC is high performance or not. Most high performance SBCs are equipped with more than 1 GB of memory, although there are units that are equipped with only 256 MB of memory. If you look at the specs of most high performance SBCs, you’ll their capability to support many I/O operations are common. Many of these SBCs have integrated video, serial devices, graphics support and other I/O devices. Most of them are also open for I/O expansion.

Tip! Single board computers can also be found in other applications. Cell phones, fax machines, scanners and other electronic products that make use of computer technology are equipped with embedded single board computers.

For heavy-duty applications, only a high performance SBC that has superior computer capabilities and can support rigorous I/O operations may be used.

Laptop Computers

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

What keyboard are you punching away at this very minute? Do you prefer a Mac or a PC? Maybe you like to keep one of each around for a variety of purposes. Hey, you’re not the only one, you know. My brother does this. He calls his IBM notebook and his compact Mac Ibook G4 his necessities. There’s nothing in cyberspace he can’t accomplish. These days you have just so many computer options at hand. I mean when it comes to personal computers and software, you can virtually have anything your heart desires. However, more recently you can acquire those ideal systems for reasonable prices. Have you taken a peek at any of the current laptop deals in your local electronic superstores? Places like Circuit City and Best Buy have a number of products to offer. Isn’t it time you upgraded your laptop?

Where do you go for the best laptop deals? Well, the truth is that you probably don’t go browsing for new computers all that often. I know I’ve only done it twice in my entire life. The first time was back in the late 90s when I finally decided to jump on the PC bandwagon and snag a Gateway desktop computer. I am literally embarrassed to say what I paid for the dang thing. I’m happy to see that Gateway is not doing as well these days. The second and last time I went computer shopping was a couple years back. I was in search of the best laptop deals; or notebook deals; whatever you want to call them. Notebooks, laptops, they look pretty much the same to me. Most of them are rather small and compact. Eventually I had decided to step on over to the Mac side and purchase a 14 inch Ibook G4. This was a wise decision if you ask me. I had loads more trouble with my Gateway; however I haven’t had a single problem with my Mac. Regardless of the choice you make, there are a variety of great laptop deals out there to pick and choose from. In reality you can hardly go wrong with a Mac, Dell, or IBM. All of these companies offer great machines. Although I will say that Dell typically has the best laptop deals, and desktop sales.

Are you in the market for a new cyberspace machine? Head on out to your local mall and check out the Dell stand and Mac store in order to attain the rundown on what both have to offer. Don’t forget to consider that warranty just in case anything goes wrong. Or you can get online and sort through a plethora of laptop deals from home.
