AVG antivirus is one of the highest ranked free virus scan and removal programs available today. Whether you want the free version or want to shell out some money for the retail version, AVG is one of the highest ranked free virus protection software on the market today. However, I still wouldn't recommend doing anything you want online and throw caution to the wind. As with every anti virus software it can't protect against stupidity. When compared to the competition, AVG comes out among the top competitors but that isn't saying too much when you consider the competition. Throughout the article, I will explain the reasons that 8 out of 10 people agree, AVG is one of the most well performing free virus scan and removal programs available and the difference between that and the retail version.

If you compare AVG to a majority of the other antivirus software, AVG comes out being the winner in the amount of computer resources it uses. AVG needs only a Pentium 1 with 300MHz in order to run. This means it could run on a computer built in 1998 and still be fine. You would be hard pressed to run McAfee or Norton since both take 5 times the hard drive space and the RAM needed to run them. Norton Antivirus recommends 512MB in order to run while AVG a lowly 128MB recommended. As you can see there is a vast difference and I believe you will notice a vast difference when you begin to run AVG if you are converting from either Norton or McAfee.

Secondly, AVG has an awesome detection rate. When it comes to viruses AVG has a 93% detection rate. Im sure the free version has a little less and the retail version of AVG has more but even so its pretty good at finding basically anything, even things that Norton and McAfee will miss.

Third and probably most important, ITS FREE! AVG Free is an excellent product and will out perform most antivirus that you would buy in a store. That is why the retail version of AVG is AMAZING. If you know what you are doing with computers and feel pretty safe using one you will be okay using AVG Free with Spybot or some other Spyware remover, however if you are not so comfortable with using a computer and worried about not being safe; I would recommend buying the retail version and keeping it updated. This is just to make sure you are safe. Always remember, its cheaper to pay for an antivirus than to lose all your cash to a hacker!

Every program has its problems and AVG is a program so it's going to have issues. When it comes to AVG free the problem are the programs that it has a conflict with. These programs are: StumbleUpon toolbar, System Protect, Contafiscal 2000, Webroot SpySweeper, ICQ Toolbar, Session Manager 0.6.1.13 add-on and, Dell Network Assistant. A majority of you will not have this but I figured it would be helpful to those of you who did.

To finish up, I highly recommend AVG to anyone looking for a free antivirus. It runs more efficiently and uses fewer resources than most of the other programs, finds a majority of the viruses, only has a few conflict programs and there is a version that is completely free with no strings attached. There are plenty of things that you could own. Some may have been bought, others given to you, and still other passed along from generation to generation.

How Identity Theft Occurs

Identity theft usually happens when someone obtains critical pieces of information about you.

This may include things like social insurance numbers, driver's license numbers, or bank PINs. Things that only their owner ought to know.

If these numbers are obtained by an identity thief, they can use them to pose as you to banks, credit companies or other services. This personal information should never be given out glibly.

Most legitimate companies will only ask for this information if you have initiated the call. They don't call you and ask for it. They may also only ask for the last few digits, rather than the entire number.

Identify thieves can also obtain this information by going through your trash or stealing your wallet or purse. It's important to shred all paperwork that contain important information before you throw it out.

Proxy sites have been around for quite a while, but it's only recently that their use has come into vogue with the mainstream Internet crowd. College students in particular have found a lot of uses for those sites with the wireless Internet access in their respective schools. But proxy sites are good for more than just collegiate shenanigans.

Liberating the Internet

Although Internet access is now common in most schools, it doesn't mean that you'll be able to browse all your favorite sites. Almost every school that offers wireless Internet access also enforces one kind of website blocking or another, such that sites like Facebook and MySpace are inaccessible. It might not sound like a big thing when you're reading about it, but it's a really big hassle when you spend a big chunk of each school day without access to your favorite sites.

These sites offer a simple and quick solution if you want to browse 'banned' sites using the school's network. By passing through such a site, the school's servers don't recognize the site's domain name as 'banned,' and so should allow you to surf your social networks to your heart's content.

At the same time, the school servers also won't be able to track the sites that you visit. All they'll see is a record of your visiting the URL of the proxy site, but no more than that. It's a handy solution if you don't want the school administrators nosing about your Internet activity.

Privacy, Please

Another advantage of proxy sites lies in the browsing records that reside within your own computer. An Internet browser typically takes note of all addresses typed into it by the user. But because you type the addresses into the site for the proxy instead of your browser's address bar, no records of your browsing session are stored in your machine.

By using a proxy site, you put an intermediary IP address between yourself and the sites you browse. As a result, the sites you visit will only be able to see the IP address of the proxy site you used, and not that of your own computer. You can then surf a little easier, assured that anybody trying to track you will have a much harder time for it.

This is good news if you're the security-conscious kind of computer user, or if you're using a shared PC to browse the Internet. Proxy sites allow you to maintain a certain level of privacy for your online activities, no matter where in the world you are or what computer you use. It's perfect for visiting off-limits domains, banned sites and pages with very sensitive information.

Unless you take measures on your side, it's very likely that there's one third party or another that's following your every step on the Internet. It's a disquieting and unnerving thought, as if there's a person always looking over your shoulder. Proxy sites put the Internet back into your control, making browsing a pleasant, personal and private experience once more.
