Computer security means a security which is used in computer and network. When some unauthorized person works on our computer than computer security is used in detecting that person and preventing that person from using it. In order to be safe as we use computer in day today life computer security is very essential. Its main objective is to protect the important data from thefts so that he could not be able to corrupt the data.

There are three layers in the computer security:

Hacking

An unauthorized person uses the computer is known as hacking. Cyber crimes main components include hacking.

Cracking

When the intension of the unauthorized person is of causing harm and creating problem than such a unauthorized intrusion is known as cracking.

Phreaking

Cracking of the phone network by unauthorized person it is known as phreaking

Measures taken for the improvement in computer security are:

The person who will compromise with security will not be allowed to access computer. Dependence on computer programs for computer security is prohibited and hence necessity for development of hardware mechanism. Operating system mechanism development is also necessary for imposing the rules on programmes. Planning for programming strategies is also very important.

How to do computer security

There are many ways for doing this. Here are some ways

Updating the software’s is very necessary  so keep updating the software One of the most common ways of computer security is using firewall. It tells us everything like data which has gone out and the data which has entered in. Password used should contain alphabet, numeric value and sign and it should be changed every now and then. Antivirus should be present and should be updated from time to time. Encryption is very necessary as it secures our data to a maximum extent.

Computer securities have some technical areas on which it works are

ü  Integrity

ü  Authentication

Confidentiality here means keeping things private or in secrecy so that unauthorized person cannot use it then comes integrity which means changes cannot be made by any unauthorized user as it is protected and last authentication means the person who is authorized for that that.

Computer security professionals are concerned mainly about  access control and nonrepudiation.

Access control means not only that user can access the resource and services but user has to access the resources which he legitimately expects.

Nonrepudiation means if a person sends a message then he cannot deny that he has sends it and vice versa.

I have windows vista ultimate and i want to install some antiviruses.
I have webroot-spysweeper and norton antivirus. Can i install both of them? I tried installing 2 different antiviruses on my other computer and it totally crashed! Since i have 2 different products, i wonder if it will always crash if you have more than 1 antivirus working on 1 computer.

For a really good anti-virus you actually have to pay money, Norton Antivirus and Norton Internet Security are different things that protect different parts, I like to use AVG, even the free version is pretty good.

6. Use strong password authentication

When you signup for an online membership like online bank, , Paypal, Ebay etc., do not use weak passwords that can make it easy for people who know you or have your some information about, easy to hack. Using your significant other's name, child's name, pet's name etc. are weak. Use something stronger like first letters of the address of the house where you were born concatenated to your birth year or something along those lines. It is best if the password is NOT some meaningful word!

7. Protect your personal information

If you are asked to give out personal information like phone number, address, SSN, identification numbers etc. on the internet, use more caution. Find out exactly why and how they will be used. If there is a link in your email that asks you to login by clicking on the link, then don't! Usually genuine emails don't ask you to login directly by clicking a link in the email. If you want to login to your membership accounts, always open a new browser and then type the URL of the website (to login to Paypal account, type paypal.com on the new browser instead of clicking on the link from an email that is asking you to login.).

If you are giving out credit card information, then the page that accepts credit card information must have secure encryption. The URL usually begins with https instead of the regular http. If you right click and select properties, the Connection section should read something like 128 bit encryption (High) and also must have 1024 bit exchange.

If the attacker gains control of the host, he could use that as a jumping-off point to attack other systems in the network.

Based on these factors, network administrators must consider both internal and external threats.  By monitoring computer security, you can significantly reduce operating expenses and improve overall company productivity.

Why is computer security so easy to bypass.
In Xp you can lock your files and folders from other users so they cant view them but if you attached the hard drive with xp on it to a vista pc or laptop vista will bypass xp,s security and let you view all files.

Why is is so easy to bypass vista passwords too And why is it that you can use a usb device to take controll and get sensative data from pcs and laptops.

I have always learnt how to bypass security by any means.
Even the secure pc can be breeched so why is pc security so weak?.

xp & vista are very weak and most of the population use windows even with the security packs installed and the latest updates installed a pc can still be breeched.

I do not think anyone who owns a pc would be safe security wise so why do people even bother with security programs most of them cant detect newly programed code and by the time they do its too late.

Imagine showing up to the office one morning to the chilling reality of having been a victim of theft. Laptop computers are missing, LCD monitors gone and, most disturbingly, the space where the file server is vastly empty. Well, maybe this will only affect business travelers and high traffic office environments? Nope. Computer theft can happen anywhere from a presentation hall to your very own home. An ING US employee found this out when a company computer was stolen from their home exposing the personal identities of over 13,000 employees and retirees in the District of Columbia. Similarly, an employee of the Department of Veteran Affairs had a company laptop stolen from home compromising the personal information of 26.5 million US war veterans.

How do you protect yourself and your valuable equipment? Often it is just common sense, but there are many computer security solutions available to safeguard your equipment and data.
